Charities
AltraLaw is more than a law firm; we are a catalyst for positive change. As the UK’s first not-for-profit law firm, all our profits are donated to charities chosen by our wonderful staff, clients, and referrers.
Our approach is rooted in the belief that business can be a force for good. AltraLaw is proud to be a pioneer in the legal industry. Our business model demonstrates that profit and purpose can coexist.
We are committed to using our platform to drive positive change and inspire others to follow our lead.
Beyond financial contributions, our staff have paid volunteering leave and we are also collaborating with charities to develop resources and support free of charge for people facing adversity, empowering them with knowledge of their employment rights and providing a safe space for them to seek advice.

Our Charities of the Year
I’m thrilled to share just how much AltraLaw means to us here at the Welsh Refugee Council. Their support has been so beneficial, and I want to highlight a few ways they’ve made a real difference.
First off, Rhydian, a senior solicitor at AltraLaw, chose us as his charity of choice. (If you didn’t know, AltraLaw is the UK’s first non-profit law firm, and their staff are given the autonomy to decide where the money is donated!) This wasn’t just a symbolic gesture; his direct donation helped keep our play project for child sanctuary seekers in Cardiff going strong when we’d just lost our long-term funder. For many of these children, this project is a lifeline—a place where they can play, learn, and start to heal. AltraLaw and Rhydian’s generosity has made a huge difference in their lives, and we’re incredibly grateful for that.
But that’s not all. AltraLaw also sponsored our Nation of Sanctuary Awards, specifically the volunteer category. This sponsorship was special because it came with the added benefit of AltraLaw’s policy to support their employees with paid leave to volunteer. This kind of support for volunteering not only helps our cause but also sets an inspiring example of how businesses can encourage community involvement.
Looking ahead, we’re excited about Rhydian’s plans to volunteer with our Wales Sanctuary Service – specifically working with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) team. This kind of expert help is crucial for some of our most vulnerable clients, and it’s fantastic to have someone as knowledgeable as Rhydian stepping up to provide it.
Moreover, AltraLaw has been instrumental in spreading the word about our work and promoting Wales as a Nation of Sanctuary. Their support has helped amplify our message and build a stronger, more welcoming community for refugees and sanctuary seekers.
In short, AltraLaw’s financial support, commitment to volunteering, and advocacy have had a huge impact, and we’re truly thankful for their partnership. We’re looking forward to continuing this journey together and making an even bigger difference in the lives of those we serve.
The whole team at AltraLaw have been so engaged and generous in their support of Ty Hafan and both as a business and individually have demonstrated a real desire to support Ty Hafan in whatever way is needed.
When a family is caring for a child whose life will be short, they often face a daily struggle without the care and support they need.
At the moment, 90% of families in Wales whose child’s life will be short are not receiving the support they need.
Our ambition at Ty Hafan is that when a child’s life will be short, no family should have to live it on their own and AltraLaw have truly joined us in that ambition.
Not only have they donated their profits to fund our vital work but they have also pledged to sponsor one of our upcoming fundraising events to help us generate further income to reach more families.
More recently Carys has provided one of our bereaved mums with some free employment law advice that helped her at an incredibly difficult time and showed great empathy and a true desire to make a difference, she has also kindly agreed to provide some further employment law information for our families who at times have challenges maintaining employment due to caring requirements.
We feel truly privileged to be supported by AltraLaw, their commitment to make this world a better place for those less fortunate has shone through and the team have been a pleasure to work with.
